Re: I was just following the satnav...

These are pretty much the same images I was able to find. My point is that none of the modern images seem to show what I would describe as a ‘flight of steps’. There might well be a flight of steps present, out of view, but I’d like to see them before judging the stupidity implied by driving over th...

Re: I was just following the satnav...

Ref the Edinburgh ‘flight of steps’, I’ve failed to find any images. Found a few pics of other stranded vehicles from same perspective, like the Beeb’s, but nothing of the actual steps. Google street view predates the changes, showing just a normal side street. I wonder if media misinformation might...

Re: 20mph alternatives

I see our village consultation results have been published. Retain 30mph - 43 votes Move to 20mph - 33 votes. Village population is 500-800 depending on who you ask. I believe the guidance from currently elected executive is that 20mph limits will go ahead where there is ‘local support’. I assume th...

Re: Drive outs 2024

Your detective work is highly accurate.

But tempted as I may be, or even envious of those who do join in, I don’t want to raise any hopes that I’d participate… so please don’t let me influence location. Always just so much to do these days, following retirement from paid employment!

Re: Drive outs 2024

Just curious :)

… As a conspicuously junior member of these forums, may I ask, what is meant by a “drive out”?

Assuming there is no rigid agenda, examples of typical events may help me to understand.

Re: Tree accident

I know that road quite well, and it’s among roads that I cowardly choose to avoid when possible. Straight enough in places to drive quite fast, but there’s a lot to take in. As it descends into Goring there’s some extreme narrowing at twisty bits, that regularly call for “sudden avoidance action” wh...

and identifying facial expressions. Since taking IAM course I’ve definitely got better at relaxing and exchanging a friendly smile with other drivers, sometimes I’m sure, helping to defuse confrontational situations. But might a more advanced AI analysis catch me out if “gritted teeth” are sometime...

Re: ADAS testing

And customers obviously won't want to be told they're not driving well I’m not sure I agree, when the customer is an average modern driver. Many, maybe most, of the people I know socially, or as relatives, seem to have no interest whatsoever in whether they are “driving well”. Particularly among ne...

Re: ADAS testing

Another example… Today I was driving on a 50mph road that used to be 60mph, and most drivers still treat it a 60. In the mirror, I saw a modern Merc closing fast, and got the sinking feeling that soon he’d be on my back bumper. But no, he held distance at about 2-3 secs behind me. Could it be some k...
