Re: Masters - Safety Vs Progress

Do you remember the thread about 1/3 or 2/3s rule for acceleration between hazards? I don't like the way (from the way I read and [mis?]understood?) it seems to place emphasis on getting from 'Here >>>> there' which may remove caution for 'here>>>danger in between>>> there' IYSWIM or, to use jargon...

Re: Masters - Safety Vs Progress

SH is, simply, the nearest point at which you can be surprised (without digging out Mind Driving to check the exact wording. ... and should therefore be dealt with by using IPSGA, not Limit Point Analysis. Roadcraft says... "... Limit Point [analysis] gives you a systematic way of judging the ...

Re: Masters - Safety Vs Progress

Have a look at the picture! It's in a village, a stone wall about 8' high, 'vehicle'-sized aperture with huge fuggoff wrought iron gates just visible, with a nice weed-free gravel driveway. The wall is set back no more than a metre from the edge of the road. In other words, it would be reasonable t...

Re: Masters - Safety Vs Progress

I thought it was - but hadn't realised there was a 'test only' option. Well I could be wrong. There used to be a test only option but I can't see it specified now. That's interesting. There is certainly still a test only option for re-tests (£249). But, you could be right that there is no test only...

Re: What's around the bend?

So perhaps his speed was ok, but he wasn't mentally prepared (that he might need to take some action) before the bend? ie. he wasn't focused on the limit point? Being a BMW driver there could, of course, be another explanation. Perhaps he was too busy flashing his headlights and sounding his horn a...

Re: What's around the bend?

Here is a link to an item on a website. For those of a sensitive disposition, I'd better warn you that it is the Daily Mail website! https://tinyurl.com/y7acm3x5 The video clip is well worth a look. So what happened to the idea that you must be able to stop on your side of the road in the distance ...

Re: Shocking driving? Not all the time

Quite rightly, the incident involving the van driver who drove through the red lights on the pedestrian crossing was followed up by the police. I'm just surprised he wasn't prosecuted for Driving Without Due Care and Attention or even Dangerous Driving  Extract from today's BBC website: Near ...

Re: Shocking driving? Not all the time

...of course, were the BMW driver to be prosecuted, I assume that the prosecution will show evidence of camera angles / compression of the space / etc. - it is allowable for one car to pass another - the fact that you can record it on your dashcam doesn't make it near / scary or dangerous! Alasdair...

Re: Shocking driving? Not all the time

Hir - I know which frame you're talking about. It does look like the BMW "cuts across the bows" but if the camera car moved lanes in between the rear and forward facing shots, then it's in the wrong, not the BMW. That's why I want to look on Google Maps or the like at road markings. I thi...
