Re: 20mph alternatives

When I lived in Sussex a lot of villagers in Ditchling complained of cars speeding through the place. The police set up speed traps and caught mostly? The villagers speeding through. The only place that I can accept people speeding in Ditchling is on the roads out of it and that's because they have...

Re: 20mph alternat

In Spain rather than blanket limits in town they are graduated, according to the type of road. A dual-carriageway may have a 50kph limit. Small two way roads a 30kph More narrow streets and especially near schools, 20kph (Police will often attend outside schools at opening and closing times). There ...

Re: Highway Code Review for cyclists, pedestrians and horse riders

He does make a good point about the imaginary pedestrian crossings. Paint crossing markings at junctions inside the give-way line. I think this may come, in time, be more widespread in general. It´s common practice where I live and around many other European countries. The markings are generally rep...

Re: Highway Code Review for cyclists, pedestrians and horse riders

The situation may be helped by the excellent, and constantly evolving, road network. Probably also helped by the much lower population density, possibly a close enough indicator of relative traffic density. The UK has almost three times as many people per unit of area. Maybe it's better to compare ...

Re: Highway Code Review for cyclists, pedestrians and horse riders

Ashley Neal banging the "you must stop for peds at RABs" drum again on YouTube. https://youtu.be/vXusi54W9W4?t=260 My comment on there "The motorcyclists stopping on the exit to RAB shows exactly why this is not a good idea. Every situation needs to be judged on its own merits and th...

Re: Highway Code Review for cyclists, pedestrians and horse riders

Perhps more advertising and greater common knowledge may helpl Ah, just like "common" sense  General HC knowledge is so woeful in the UK that I can't imagine how TPTB thought changing it would make any difference at all. In Spain if over 40 when renewing your licence you must hav...

Re: Highway Code Review for cyclists, pedestrians and horse riders

´All well and good. Trouble was, just as I slowed, an oncoming car started signalling right, who also wanted to turn into same side road. The driver noted that I’d slowed and assumed it was for his benefit. He too gave me a wave of thanks and swung across too, right into conflict with pedestrian´. T...
