Re: Proposal for new driving test regulations post initial test...

I have no idea whether you are right that periodic eye tests would make a significant difference to road safety. I strongly suspect that the standard test of reading a number plate at 20m is far too simplistic - that level of acuity is less important than field of view and maybe other factors. Obse...

Re: Proposal for new driving test regulations post initial test...

How do you get drivers to put more of their concentration into the task of driving, to enter hazards more slowly and to adopt longer following distances, while not compensating with other risk enhancing behaviours? Lots of trafpol and widespread removal of driving licenses from the incompetent. No ...

Re: “Black box” recorders to become compulsory?

I'm tempted to complain to the ASA about "intelligent" speed adaption since it's absolutely nothing of the sort. Presumably when it becomes widespread enough, scameras will cease to exist though, which could be an upside? As for driver monitoring, I wonder whether it will really help when ...

Re: New Audi A6 - not able to switch off Stop/Start function

It's not so bad in SWMBOs car which is manual, but you can force a restart by dipping the clutch. The problem I've had with autos with it is there's no way to tell the car you're about to want power, without wanting it /now/ - eg to slip into a small gap on a roundabout. I guess you might be able to...

Re: New Audi A6 - not able to switch off Stop/Start function

It could be buried in or a consequence of meeting the Euro 7 regulations. Or WLTP assessment program (not sure if that's the same thing). It might also be it doesn't have a stop/start disable button, but with the appropriate diagnostic rig you can turn if off in the software. And not providing the ...

Re: Hazard perception test now features more weather conditions

Can autonomous cars pass these tests? Presumably the software should have some way of indicating it's seen something that means it needs to change driving plan.
