Re: Let's Talk More
if courtesy causes others to feel urinated away then they should, in my opinion, be ashamed to call themselves Advanced Drivers. Why do you not care how 'non-advanced' motorists feel or react? Gareth, you have already accused me of being unnecessarily pejorative and I tried to explain that you had ...

Re: Let's Talk More
the original Three Cs Roadcraft maxim, "Care,Courtesy & Consideration" will still nag me when I see another motorist requiring help. It's all very well to be courteous but best to avoid misplaced courtesy. There's an article on the Bristol IAM website that talks about this ... I read ...

Re: Let's Talk More
There's a saying someone posted, I think on here: 'courtesy causes confusion'. Being pro-social (random acts of kindness) has its place for making the world a better place. However, being helpful shouldn't p1$$ other people off in the process :) I'm surprised that "courtesy" has been asso...

Re: Let's Talk More
That seems unnecessarily pejorative. If a driver isn't ready to join the stream of traffic, why would anyone bother waiting for them to get ready? Horse It astounds me when there are drivers waiting to emerge - but apparently off in their own little world, not even aware of the traffic around them,...

Re: Let's Talk More
Are you saying I should join the local IAM Group? Not especially, was thinking more about the sort of informal days various of us participating in this forum arrange, where we meet up and go for short drives together, taking it in turns to drive our own car for perhaps an hour to an hour and a half...

Re: Let's Talk More
Goes to show how we use unofficial use of lights differently and how it can cause confusion. If I use lights to signal it is usually long for warning to draw attention to my presence or danger, for example at night approaching a hazard such as junction or bend. Occasionally if I want to say OK to a...

Re: Let's Talk More
The trouble with the headlight flash by bikes, and this applies to cars now with all day lights, is that very often where a flash may be useful there is a sleeping policeman or other traffic calming, or a need to brake firmly. This can lead to what looks like a flash but isn't. I therefore try to a...

Postby Gareth » Wed Jun 20, 2018 6:47 pm If a conclusion through discussion is elusive, I find exploring by doing very helpful. Try to take part in a driving day sometime ... How do you know your perception aligns with what the main players in the action are thinking and feeling? Thanks for you repl...

Re: Let's Talk More
Postby GTR1400MAN » Wed Jun 20, 2018 9:59 pm I'm one of those who will leave a gap, if safe, in queuing traffic, but it is the other drivers responsibility to decide if it is safe for them to make the move. It's the same with NOT waving peds across. They have to take responsibility for their own saf...
