Re: A Very Good Read

There’s plenty of technology that arguably ‘encourages’ a driver to pay less attention - reversing cameras and ‘beep beeps’ spring to mind. As for different names, there are countless things that are marketed with dubious accuracy, on a motoring theme Lexus/Toyota on their ‘self charging hybrid’ is ...

Re: A Very Good Read

I know Tesla ran one comparing the accident rate on cars using Autopilot v those that weren't - whether it would stand up to scientific scrutiny I don't know. I can only speak from my experience of the Tesla system, and that very definitely in the category of driver assistance, and not autonomy. As...

Re: A Very Good Read

The point of the technology is to make driving safer. How many rear end motorway shunts would be avoided if adaptive cruise control was more widely used? Would you agree that there is a difference between technology that allows the driver to be disengaged from the task and that which doesn't? At th...

         Indeed. If that much attention is required then WTF is the point of it. If you’ve ever used adaptive cruise control you’ll know just how good that is compared to standard cruise. The auto steer function takes care of the many small steering inpu...

Re: A Very Good Read

When using Autopilot the driver must remain fully attentive to what is going on around, and very definitely right in front of him.         Indeed. Re: A Very Good Read

I drive a Tesla and I stopped watching after a couple of minutes. Autopilot is designed for motorways, dual carriageways and A roads with clearly defined lane markings. It is absolutely not designed to be used in the town/city centre environment. This was amply demonstrated by the number of times h...

Re: A Very Good Read

AAMOI, what does the Tesla driver manual say it's for? If, as above, motorway/freeway driving, then using it elsewhere would be like urban brake assist on country lanes. From the manual: Traffic-Aware Cruise Control is primarily intended for driving on dry, straight roads, such as highways and free...

Auto pilot? Pah! :o Watch this. It's more involved than driving the car yourself! :? sk0eZRVw9x4 Lots of interesting videos about his Tesla car, the software and how it copes with UK roads on his channel. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCW2uLZAkI67PLIwmPF2RIQw I drive a Tesla and I stopped watchin...

Re: EV sales down

There is a grant available in England for the purchase and installation of a charge point, providing you choose one that’s on the list. Unfortunately that’s it, the charging network north of the border makes England’s look very poor by comparison, and a complete shambles. You need goodness knows how...
