Re: Help for a friend

I used to have a three hour lesson (well...a four, but I didn't charge for break) after pupils had passed. It took in the M1, M25, M11 and A11. .... It was great to be there... <shudder>. The only reason I can think of M25/M11/A11 being "great" is because I'm being taken home from an airp...

Re: Help for a friend

I know the thread's a bit old now but two things that I wish I' been told when I passed my test jumped out at me with their absence. 1) Don't be intimidated by other road users. For the first few weeks/months/year it's easy to be 'pushed' and bullied down the road. Often times, especially in cities...

Re: Hands on the wheel

Have others noticed how many pull/push steerers are not very smooth? Yes. Me. When I first became an ADI I noticed. I practiced in a car park for hours and hours until I could feel it becoming a well-rounded technique :racing: . I would do the same with my students, steering fig 8s, then slow/fast,...

Re: Dutch Reach

All these years I have been teaching it wrongly....oops! Well, back when I was teaching (80s and 90s, uk) I'd never heard of the"Dutch Reach" and if someone had mentioned it I would have probably thought they were being vulgar. :) I would teach to guide the seatbelt buckle to the B pillar ...

Re: Associate cannot keep to the speed limit

Part and parcel of a visual scanning process is to make sure your vehicle is performing as it should.

Then whack her with a stick!

Re: Masters assessment

Another thing that I've found is that many hold on to first gear too long because they don't use enough gas, which make negotiating a roundabout from a standstill jerky in first gear. Related, I suspect some instructors get their pupils to change to second gear too early because they have trouble w...
