Re: Speed limiters mandatory from 2022?
Even if it could be made to work adequately, will it not encourage the dumbing down of the act of driving? The is already a significant cohort of "drivers" that consider themselves safe when observing the limits and pay scant attention to conditions - these are more important to safety tha...

Re: I'm in a bolshy mood.
I find that the limiting factors are (not necessarily in the order given):- 1. Speed limit, however nonsensical I perceive it to be. 2. Safety - am I in my comfort zone and can I react adequately to possible hazards? 3. Passenger comfort - I often carry nervous and/or fragile passengers, so avoid ha...

Re: Canada - Distracted driving...
I use to find that on a long journey my attention used to slip and fatigue would set in. My remedy was to light up a cigarette; smoking is such an automatic process that it did not conflict with attention on driving, even enhanced it IMHO, so long as I did not drop it. That said, I no longer smoke i...

Re: RoSPA launches website to keep older drivers safe on the roads
For most driving I prefer to have a good margin of spare braking or cornering capacity to allow for the sort of misjudgements we can all make at times. Best wishes all, Dave. Hear, Hear. If you activate ABS or any of the safety systems we have now you have failed to correctly assess the conditions....

Re: RoSPA launches website to keep older drivers safe on the roads
Going away from the thread a little, but I found on switching to a more powerful automatic version of the same model it was much more difficult to maintain a set speed without reference to the instruments, and in urban situations I prefer to keep all my attention on the road and its surroundings. I...

Re: RoSPA launches website to keep older drivers safe on the roads
I have reached 64 with my faculties largely intact, but I have noticed some deteriorations. Sadly, it's the things we don't notice which may cause grief - like peripheral vision, which deteriorates unavoidably from 60 onwards As far as I can determine my peripheral vision is still adequate, but I h...

Re: RoSPA launches website to keep older drivers safe on the roads
I agree with Whosegeneration that it can be difficult to stick to the limits - cars are more powerful now than in the old days when the rattles and wheezing engine tended to limit progress. I disagree with this bit. Provided the car is in the appropriate gear and the driver is concentrating, the ca...

Re: RoSPA launches website to keep older drivers safe on the roads
If the older drivers had taken an AD course and learned how to drive properly they, perhaps, wouldn't have problems for theirselves or others. As an older driver my problem is driving slow enough to avoid licence endorsement. Much easier in the old days. What aspects does AD cover which aren't in '...
