Re: Forum Names

I use 'TR4ffic' across a number of forums - driving & car related, and others ...it's just a merge of TR4 and traffic I passed my IAM Advanced Driving Test in my Triumph TR4 in 1985 at the tender age of 22.!! ...I think the examiner enjoyed the test as much as I did. I was in the Royal Navy at t...

Re: IAM Roadsmart’s car crash on social media

Very disillusioned with the direction the IAM is going these days. That's why I decided not to renew my membership last year... Mainly prompted by the survey at the time about how to reduce accidents/fatalities on rural roads (I think it was) where there was no option for additional training and th...

Re: Proposed changes to the Highway Code?

With regards to drivers turning left or right and cyclists under/over taking having priority, I feel that in this situation the person with the better view of what is happening and/or potentially going to happen should have the responsibility to give way or be flexible ...so, in these cases, it is t...

Re: Driving thoughts

Silent Commentary. A mix of verbal and non verbal thoughts done in the head. Essential at all times when driving. I do quite a lot of Silent Commentary... In my head it sounds quite good! I find it provides focus ...'Look for the cross view', 'one towards', 'slow paint', 'mirror check - steady behi...

Re: Intelligent Speed Assistance

...but it still doesn’t resolve the issue that speeds below the posted speed limit can still be ‘inappropriate’. From the Leeds Uni site, a linked German report states that 32% of road fatalities are caused by at least one driver ‘...driving at an inappropriate speed’ Are they suggesting that ‘inapp...

Rear Fog Light Etiquette...

So… I was out and about mostly on the M6 yesterday mid-afternoon through to early evening with a fair amount of mist and fog about. At no time was visibility below 100m but well over half the drivers had their rear fog lights on even though side lights were fine. Especially when it’s dark, when cars...

Re: “Black box” recorders to become compulsory?

I've gone with the (currently still) appreciating, completely devoid of any electronics option..!

All I have to contend with is the Lucas 'Prince of Darkness' electrics.!! :D

Re: Motorists should be penalised for going just 1mph over the speed limit, Britain’s road policing chief says

See my earlier post about a colleague who was done for 41 in a 40. There's a twist: he supplied the evidence. IIRC Camera van was saying 48, but he had a GPS log which showed 41. Magistrates accepted his evidence and found him guilty anyway. At the time you posted this I was thinking this decision/...

Re: Safety systems are there to be gamed...

OK. It's all "what if's" but it's the principle I wanted to debate/get across 1. Your AV and you are in a built up area. You've just left a junction going up hill - in the opposite direction to your right a stationary queue of vehicles waiting at the junction you've just left and to your l...

Re: Safety systems are there to be gamed...

Straw man argument. If an autonomous car is making decisions about harming humans, it's doing it wrong. Surely that was the whole point of introducing them in the first place? It shouldn't be too difficult to think up a scenario for an impending collision where the autonomous car you are travelling...
