Re: Motorists should be penalised for going just 1mph over the speed limit, Britain’s road policing chief says

See my earlier post about a colleague who was done for 41 in a 40. There's a twist: he supplied the evidence. IIRC Camera van was saying 48, but he had a GPS log which showed 41. Magistrates accepted his evidence and found him guilty anyway. At the time you posted this I was thinking this decision/...

Re: Safety systems are there to be gamed...

OK. It's all "what if's" but it's the principle I wanted to debate/get across 1. Your AV and you are in a built up area. You've just left a junction going up hill - in the opposite direction to your right a stationary queue of vehicles waiting at the junction you've just left and to your l...

Re: Safety systems are there to be gamed...

Straw man argument. If an autonomous car is making decisions about harming humans, it's doing it wrong. Surely that was the whole point of introducing them in the first place? It shouldn't be too difficult to think up a scenario for an impending collision where the autonomous car you are travelling...

Re: Have diesel cars got a future?

This obviously wouldn't work for all electric vehicles but could potentially be OK in the medium term. But electric only vehicles don't pay road tax and nor did most hybrids At the moment, no... I was thinking further down the line as Road Tax diminishes from diesel/petrol fuel the Government will ...

Re: Have diesel cars got a future?

Road pricing . . . ? GPS linked, by class of road / route, time of day, etc. That would seem to be the logical conclusion. It has been proposed previous but I think we're getting to the point where technology can now make it possible. The argument fore was that you obviously only pay for what you u...

Re: Damaged new car

I'd certainly be a bit miffed if that happened to me... Presumably, if your colleague had arrived to pick it up, he hadn't yet 'signed on the dotted line' for it so he wasn't compelled to take/accept it... I'd be inclined to to say, 'No worries, tell me when you've got a replacement. I'm not having ...

Re: First fatal accident for self-driving car

Kind of depressing (although inevitable) that the focus is on the Tesla failing to brake rather than why the truck driver pulled across someone coming towards them  ...or why Joshua Brown, the driver of the Tesla, failed to take control. I can just see a huge lawsuit looming ...with Tesla fee...
