Re: Highway Code Review for cyclists, pedestrians and horse riders

This may be related to my perception that the membership really don't like to share the road Do cyclists like to share footpaths with those on foot when it's marked for cyclists? Do motorists like to share the road with those on foot when there is a footpath alongside? Is it reasonable to expect mo...

Re: Empty roads

Looming, hmmm... I remember learning to drive a car. Once I found a school with an instructor who actually knew the HC (it took a few schools  ), I went out on my first full lesson. Round the side streets then "OK, let's see you take it out on the main road". After a few minutes (thi...

Re: Block Changes - How Many Do You Miss?

If I accelerate briskly, I hold the low gears until peak power (or so) then up one, repeatedly. At the speed limit, block up to highest that works for that speed and the conditions. Some block-up before reaching their desired speed, which just takes more time and reduces progress. Makes me wonder i...

Re: Hazard perception test now features more weather conditions

That 'Driving in rain' clip shows the example car following less than two seconds behind the front car ... on a wet road! So does the 'Driving at night' one. These are DVLA examples of how to drive?!? Or may be we should be hitting the 'stop this' button as soon as it comes on.

Re: Second thoughts on offsiding

I have known oil spills to sit on the crown of the road and in the raised middle of a roundabout. Well, that's because the raised middle is more level. Similarly I have known ice to form in sunken pickets and I have known it to form on raised portions of the road which are more exposed. Ice can for...

Re: Second thoughts on offsiding

unless this unseen hazard has a higher chance of being in one place or another. But it often does. Superelevation, the transition from road crown to and from superelevation and the change in the degree of superelevation across the width of the roadway all make it more likely for the road to be slip...

Re: Second thoughts on offsiding

'However, by using twice as much of the road, Is your car suddenly twice as wide? Using both sides of the road, albeit probably only one at a time ;) OFFside & NEARside, 1 + 1 = 2 (except, as a mate says, for high values of '1') But only using one at a time. If the hypothetical oil/ice patch is...

Re: Intelligent Speed Assistance - coming soon?

It also says "A study for the European Commission found the other main positive impacts include: encouraging walking and cycling due to increased perceived safety of cars vis-à-vis vulnerable road users": So driving 'on the limiter' at NSL past cyclists and pedestrians on country roads wit...

Re: Control Pal

It sounds very like the monitoring system my employer put in my lease car as a trial run a couple of changes back. It reported high g events and their frequency. The feedback from those running the scheme was that it would alert for drivers who had a lot of roundabouts on their route (e.g. MK) or wh...
