Re: SAS Expert Training

SAS - is that Saturday And Sunday drivers? With few exceptions anyone who says they were special forces probably weren't. Check out Sean Bean in Ronin when questioned by Robert deNiro! I would only be impressed if a provider demonstrated that they instructed Military Police personal protection offic...

Re: Advanced Driving or Self Important?

A. Tom Topper in "Very Advanced Driving" states that, "The Very Advanced driver uses every opportunity with skill without risk or discourtesy." And demonstrates turning right at a roundabout from the left hand lane where the right lane is blocked. That's even more 'cheeky' than t...

Re: The EU - Leave or Remain?

I've only just opened this after a few weeks away. I think this has been a most interesting discussion. I haven't seen anything as good anywhere else. I am serious on this. To me it's interesting that a site for conscientious drivers has so much value in general discussion. Perhaps it's because of a...

Re: Advanced Road Driving

You are spot on there. I did get involved 20 years ago when there were two organisations trying to do an IAM imitation - the Society of Advanced Motorists and the IAM Australia but both failed and disappeared. I am now the Driver Development Officer for the City of Sydney and quite comfortable overs...

Advanced Road Driving

There are very few, if any, current on-road advanced courses and no tests in NSW. There are many 'private' area or race track 'advanced' courses but they usually only cover emergency skills with no practical low-risk training. But one can adapt UK learned techniques to local conditions. Country road...

Re: HIGH STANDARD/FURTHER TRAINING IN THE UK

In the Earl of Cottenham's day much of the 'racing' was on public roads. Although usually closed there were many more hazards to deal with. Even when Stirling Moss won the Mille Miglia with Jenkinson it was more like a rally on public roads (read The Racing Driver). Racing lines were more like the '...

The Official DVSA Guide to Driving 2015: The Essential Skills

Has anyone read this yet? I'm waiting for a copy from Amazon. Any comments? Very little is published here in Australia - compared to the past few years in the UK - John Lyon's Advanced Driving, The Old Stig's How to drive and Reg Local's Advanced and Performance Driving as well as Chris Gilbert's DV...
