Re: End of 20mph growth?

In agreeing with jont's original post it seems I'm not alone. To anyone with access I reccommend the article by the former Deputy Chief Constable of Grampian Police - p3, ABD's On The Road magazine, Issue 149, Winter 2023/4.

Re: Proposed speed limit changes in Wales

Yes, agree with martine. I know from my own experience with my own highway authority it's just a box-ticking exercise and both democracy and expertise will be totally ignored. The idiots have alrteady set their agenda and neither fact nor common sense will deter them.

Re: Brake and their RoadMap

That's true. The current DfT Circular (01/2013) is guidance only. Reasons given by my County HA include:- ""for preserving and improving amenities..." and "facilitating the passage on the road... of any class of traffic". Am writing this whilst listening to R4 Positive Think...

Re: Brake and their RoadMap

I belonged to Cycling Uk for years until I discovered that their policies are the same as Brake's in wanting 20/40 mph urban/rural speed limits, speed limiters in all vehicles and motorists generally pilloried but without teaching them essential skills. I wrote to their Chief Exec telling her why I ...

Re: Older cars become more attractive by the day

Entirely agree with the OP. My M135i was off the road for a week when the whole iDrive system crashed due to hard disk failure - an ailment I thought unique to computers, not cars! BMW had to import a new one from Germany at vast expense (to themselves). Have happily taken the opportunity to re-purc...

Re: Been a naughty boy?

a) Adopt Jon T's option
b) Move to the wilds of Wales or Teesdale
c) Give up and take up tiddliwinks instead
But seriously: not all IAM examiners keep a strict eye on speedos during safe overtaking manoeuvres. So adopt the Strangely Brown option (assuming absence of cameras).

Re: Book Review: High Performance Driving By Tom Wisdom

It's what started it all for me. Found it on the shelves of my local library at the tender age of 15. Devoured it, Roadcraft and everything else motoring I could get my hands on. I still refer both to it and to John Miles's book mentioned by Mr C-W from time to time but can't help regretting that th...

Re: The Antidote to BRAKE

Ok I take the point about Bloom; I hadn't done my research. So they have a joker. I still think much of what they propose on testing, training and law enforcement makes sense. I've also been re-reading John Lyon's proposals for future training and testing in his book Advanced Driving. In principle t...

The Antidote to BRAKE

Wasn't sure whether to post this as a reply on the B vs AD thread or start a new one. Decided on the latter. Like many on here and ADUK I'm worried, nay frightened, by some of the things BRAKE advocate, and especially so at the thought that they're lobbying politicians for those things. However, the...
